Every January, Melbourne takes centre stage welcoming the best tennis players and the biggest tennis fans from around the globe for the Australian Open. It’s one of my favourite times of the year to be in Melbourne during the warm summer and I love watching the tennis.
The location of the Sofitel is second to none. Located in the heart of the shopping dining and theatre district of Melbourne city centre on the Paris-end of Collins Street named for the areas old world European character and cosmopolitan cultural attractions. It is also a short walk or tram ride down to the Australian Open.
Here are my top 10 must try restaurants to check out around Sofitel Melbourne On Collins:
- Movida – amazing Spanish tapas restaurant
- Cumulus Inc. – great modern European food
- Chin Chin – spicy Thai/Asian fusion
- Supernormal – asian fusion
- Cecconi’s – classic Italian
- Mamasita – Mexican
- Il Solito Posto – best ragu pasta in town
- Coda – Asian fusion
- Tonka – modern Indian
- Izakaya Den – great sake list and delicious Japanese small plates
Staying at the Sofitel, it’s definitely a must to have breakfast or dinner at No35 Restaurant. With stunning views of the Melbourne cityscape, it’s a great way to start and finish the day with a delicious meal.
What an unbelievable game of tennis from the Williams sisters and a great Australian Open 2017 all round. It’s unbelievable that they’ve been able to maintain such a high calibre of tennis form for so many years. Congratulations to Serena Williams (AccorHotels offical ambassador) on taking the win! The victory marks Serena’s seventh Australian Open title and the win ensures she regain her No. 1 ranking from Angelique Kerber. We can all agree that 2016 was definitely the year of the underdog in sports and global politics. Will this year be the year of throwbacks? Can’t wait for the Federer v Nadal finals! #throwback
