Boyfriend jeans are baggy pants that are supposed to look like you borrowed them from your boy. I’m a very girly girl and my initial thought of wearing boyfriend jeans is that it isn’t my style. Over time I started to experiment with boyfriend jeans. I found that boyfriend jeans has a place in my wardrobe after discovering ways to wear them with something a bit more feminine to offset the masculinity of the silhouette.
Here are five ways to make boyfriend jeans look feminine:
Wear heels. One of the easiest ways to make a slouchy pair of denim look more feminine is to wear heels. Classic pumps, thin ankle strap sandals, and ballet flats are all great options. For winter, go for a pair of ankle boots but with a heel. I love to pair mine with the Rag and Bone Harrow booties.
2. Red lipstick. A sultry red lip is the perfect way to balance out oversized denim. My lipstick of choice is Tom Ford in Crimson Noir.
3. Go sheer on top. Balance the masculine look with more feminine pieces on top. There’s nothing sexier than some subtle sheerness.
4. Create balance with structured pieces. Pair loose fitting pieces with more structured ones. This creates that balance which is key to achieving a polished look.
5. Accessorize the outfit. Choose a stand out bag, statement earrings or a pair of sunglasses. Bold accessories will work very well. Just don’t throw them on all at once, focus on one item that to make it the stand out piece.
A tip to choosing a flattering pair of boyfriend jeans is that although it is meant to be slightly oversized, you shouldn’t be swimming in them. They should fit comfortably around your thighs but not so loose that you can fit another person in there.
