I was so thrilled to embark on a Wintervention with AccorHotels and Tropical North Queensland Tourism to Cairns, Port Douglas and Palm Cove. It was the perfect timing as Melbourne weather was becoming chillier by the day and I was in desperate need of some time in the sun! We set off on this adventure early Sunday morning with Jetstar. It was a short 3 hour flight.
We arrived at Pullman Reef Casino Hotel. Nestled by Trinity inlet and cruise liner terminal, the five-star hotel is considered one of Cairns’ most prestigious hotels. The newly refurbished guest rooms feature a modern ensuite with spa bath and Roger & Gallet amenities and a private balcony with either city or water views. The hotel features a roof-top swimming pool, gym, Cairns’ only Hatted restaurant Tamarind, boutique casino and a rooftop Wildlife Dome.
I was so excited to experience Cairns Zoom & Wildlife Dome on top of Pullman Reef Casino Hotel. I cuddled a koala, held a crocodile and embarked on a dome-climb over Cairns. The view from above was beautiful!
For lunch, a beautiful beachside picnic lunch was organised for us. Little did we know, we were taking a helicopter to our lunch spot! We boarded GBR Helicopters and took in breathtaking views of the reef!
After the amazing picnic lunch, we freshened up back at our hotel before meeting for pre-dinner drinks at Bar36. After some delicious cocktails, we headed to dinner at the award-winning Tamarind Restaurant. The restaurant features a Thai-inspired fusion cuisine featuring the finest regional produce.
The next day we enjoyed a leisure breakfast. Shellie (@ironchefshellie) and I decided to have our breakfast by the pool. Shortly after, we packed our bags to head to Mossman Gorge.
We arrived at the beautiful Mossman Gorge Gateway Centre and experienced a Dreamtime Walk with a Kuku Yalanji traditional owner. It was such a wonderful and unique experience. At the gorge, you can enjoy a swim in the emerald green, rainforest waters. With smooth granite boulders purposely positioned through the gorge, it’s the perfect setting to spend an afternoon.
We arrived at Pullman Port Douglas Sea Temple Resort & Spa just in time for lunch! By now our tummies were rumbling! We were welcomed with fresh coconuts and creative cocktails. Did I mention the amazing seafood lunch spread?
Thanks for this awesome underwater shot Phil (@phlipvids)!
Pullman Port Douglas Sea Temple Resort & Spa is a luxury resort located on Four Mile Beach. The gateway to the Great Barrier Reef and Daintree Rainforest. Renowned among the finest hotels in Port Douglas, this spacious holiday retreat features a range of accomodation choices, including Studio Spa Rooms One-, Two- and Three-Bedroom Apartments and Three-Bedroom Villa. All situated around one of the largest lagoon pools in the Southern Hemisphere.
In the afternoon, I had a wonderful hot stone massage at the award-winning Vie Spa. After my relaxing massage, we enjoyed some pre-dinner drinks and leisurely dinner at Aqua Restaurant. We took in the magnificent views over the flame-lit lagoon pool. It was the perfect way to end a perfect day!
The next day, we were all ready for a full day Great Barrier Reef experience. We boarded Sailaway’s luxury catamaran to Low Isles! When we arrived, we had a relaxing time snorkelling and soaking in the sun!
We were ready to check into our hotel and wash the sand and sea off. We checked-in to The Reef House Hotel & Spa, Mgallery by Sofitel. Featuring a beautiful beachside location and exceptional accomodation facilities. It is the perfect option for visitors looking for a boutique Palm Cove resort. All the property’s 67 guest rooms have recently been refurbished offering stylish decor with a colonial beach house feel.
After freshening up, we enjoyed pre-dinner drinks at Brigadier’s Lounge. Followed by dinner at Reef House Restaurant.
The award-winning Reef House Restaurant is nestled under 300 year old Melaleuca trees overlooking the Coral Sea in the centre of Palm Cove village. Head Chef Ashe Lewis serves up a seasonal menu featuring the very best of locally sourced product for guests to enjoy overlooking Palm Cove beach.
It’s become one of our (Shellie and I) traditions on the last day of our trip to enjoy in-room dining together. This trip was no exception!
After breakfast, some of the girls and I enjoyed a leisure bike ride (you can borrow complimentary bikes from the hotel) along Palm Cove beach and then admired the beautiful view from the hammock by the beach.
To conclude this wonderful trip, we were spoilt with an amazing seafood lunch with lots of cocktails and wine. Needless to say, we felt very full and satisfied!
It’s been an incredible trip from Cairns to Port Douglas to Palm Cove! I fell in love with Tropical North Queensland and the wonderful people, food and activities it has to offer! I would highly recommend this beautiful destination for your next Wintervention!
